After banning 59 apps in June, the Indian government has now banned a total of 118 Chinese apps, including MV Master. Ever since, there’s been confusion amongst people with regards to MV Master app’s owner, origin country, and if it’s permanently banned in India. Well, here’s everything you need to know about it.
What is MV Master?
MV Master is a popular photo and video editing app that lets you make videos with built-in templates, online music, and photo effects. You can edit, merge, and create videos by adding photos, background music, stickers, and makeup filters.
The app was launched in the year 2019. Since then, it has managed to garner about 60 million downloads on Google Play Store with over 50 million from India. You can check its privacy policy page here.
MV Master is Made in Which Country?
Is MV Master a Chinese App? Yes, it has been developed by a Chinese company called Kuaishou Technology (Kwai Technology). It’s the parent company of the video-sharing platform Kwai which recently shut its operations in India after facing the ban.
As per reports, Kuaishou Technology earned a total revenue of $7.2 billion in 2019. The Beijing-based firm also has backing from Tencent- China’s largest gaming company and also the developer of now banned PUBG Mobile.
Kuaishou has lately been in the news for building a $1.41 billion data center with roughly 300,000 servers in China. This gives us an idea about how much data the company plans to store.
About MV Master App’s Owner
The app’s owner is Su Hua Cheng Yixiao- the founder and CEO of Kuaishou Technology. He’s behind the development of apps like Kwai and MV Master. After being launched, the app became one of the most downloaded apps of the year 2019 in the “Photography” section of the Play Store.
Surprisingly, the Play Store listing mentions the developer as ‘XYZ Online.’ Whereas, the App Store listing and app’s privacy policy page reads out Joyo Technology Pte. Ltd. which is registered in Singapore.
Is it Banned in India?
Yes. MV Master has two listings on Google Play Store- “MV Master – Short Video Maker, Status & Community” and “MV Master – Best Video Maker & Photo Video Editor.” Both are mentioned in the official list of freshly banned Chinese apps in India.
As of now, the app is still available for download on Play Store and App Store. However, we expect it to be removed soon from both platforms. Besides, telcos will likely be ordered to blacklist the app from being able to connect to the internet.
Alternatives to MV Master
Instead of using MV Master for creating videos, you can opt for other similar video editing apps like Kinemaster, PowerDirector, Quik Video Editor, Vimeo Create, VideoShop, Funimate, and more.
Wrapping Up
This was all about MV Master’s origin country, who is its owner or founder, and if it’s banned in India. We’ve also mentioned a couple of non-Chinese alternatives that you can use instead. In case of any other queries, feel free to reach out on Twitter or via the comments below.
