Facebook recently added a new security feature, allowing users to lock their profiles on the platform. It is designed for people in India, particularly women who want more control over their Facebook experience. Here’s what is Facebook Profile Lock and how you can use it.
Profile Lock on Facebook
For starters, Facebook Profile Lock is a privacy feature that protects one’s data from complete strangers on the platform. Once enabled, strangers, i.e., people you’re not friends with, will not be able to see any photos or posts on your timeline. Instead, they’ll be shown a limited view of your profile content.
Previously, with the profile picture guard, Facebook prevented others from downloading and sharing the user’s profile picture. Profile lock extends it further by stopping others from expanding your profile picture or viewing any other content.
Steps Lock your Profile on Facebook
1] Open the Facebook app and head to the Profile section.
2] Tap the three dots under your name.
3] On the following page, click on Lock Profile.
4] Tap Lock Profile again to confirm.
That’s it. You’ve now successfully locked your Facebook profile. From now, strangers won’t be able to see your photos and posts in the timeline, full-size profile picture or cover photo, your stories, or any new posts and photos.
Any posts you’ve shared in the past will be visible only to your friends. Facebook will also enable timeline and tag review, meaning you can manually review when others post on your timeline or tag you in posts.
To disable the feature, follow the same steps, and tap Unlock Profile.
Wrapping Up
This was a quick guide on what Facebook profile lock is and how you can use it on your account. It’s indeed a useful addition for people who want to protect their profile data from strangers, especially while interacting in public groups. Anyway, what are your thoughts on it?
