MediaTek, one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies, has collaborated with a home-grown manufacturing company VVDN Technologies to launch AIoT based smart devices in India. The Taiwan-based chip manufacturer shifts its focus from smartphones in India to launch a new range of AIoT solutions for home and office use.
MediaTek has also committed to enabling the Indian AIoT ecosystem and boosting 5G capabilities to make great technology accessible to everyone and to support ‘Make in India’ and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ campaigns.
VVDN and MediaTek will be working closely to design, develop, and manufacture innovative AIoT powered smart devices, including camera solutions, home automation solutions, and Voice Assistant Devices i.e. smart speakers in India in the Q4 2020. MediaTek has set up two R&D centers in India in Noida and Bangalore.
MediaTek Smart Devices Coming to India
At its first Virtual Tech Diaries event, MediaTek also launched a new microsite for Indian Non-Mobile products. These products will depict the company’s commitment to creating solutions for the Indian demographic.
The microsite offers details on a variety of products powered by MediaTek chips. These products include smart home devices, education tablets, POS terminals, biometric devices, and automotive solutions.
MediaTek already powers some leading home products like smart TVs, voice assistant devices, Wi-Fi routers, smart appliances, exercise equipment, etc.
MediaTek has a balanced portfolio across smartphones, smart homes, and other segments. The company’s 20-25% revenue is led by smart-home and other category devices including TVs, DVD Players, Storage devices, etc.
The non-mobile business is taking a significant lead for MediaTek, with increased uptake in smart home devices. MediaTek has collaborated with some popular smart TV makers like OnePlus, Motorola, Samsung among others. Earlier this year, MediaTek and Samsung introduced the world’s first 8K QLED TV powered by MediaTek’s custom Wi-Fi 6 chipset.
“We are keen to enable the ’Make in India’ narrative by collaborating with indigenous device makers like VVDN Technologies to create smart solutions in India, targeted at both Indian and global consumers,” said, Mr. Anku Jain, Managing Director, MediaTek India.
