Following the launch of Instagram Reels, Facebook is now testing a similar ‘Short Videos’ feature on its main app in India. Using it, you can watch and create TikTok-like short videos directly from the Facebook app. Here’s how to get Facebook’s short video feature on your phone.
Facebook Testing its TikTok-style ‘Short Videos’ Feature in India
For starters, Facebook ‘Short Videos’ offers an interface similar to that of TikTok, including swipe up gesture to scroll for the next video. Similarly, options to like, comment and share are present in the bottom right corner of the video.
Creators can add music and even pause and record like TikTok. Once created, you can share the video for it to appear in the ‘Short Videos’ section on Facebook. The video duration maxes out at 26 seconds, longer than Reels‘ 15-second limit.

Facebook is currently testing the feature primarily in India since it’s the largest market for short videos, following the ban of TikTok.
Now, you don’t need to do anything specific to get the feature. Most users will get it directly on the Facebook app’s homescreen while scrolling through the news feed. Once you see the short videos tab, you can tap to watch videos or use the Create option to post your own videos.
However, it may not appear for everyone since the feature is still in the testing phase. Anyways, make sure that you’re running the latest version of Facebook. I got the feature on Facebook app v283.0.0.31.121.
Previously, Facebook was anticipated to launch a dedicated short-video app called Lasso. However, the giant dropped its plans ahead of the launch of Instagram Reels. And now, it seems to be going the other way around by bundling the feature within its main app.
Wrapping Up
While many are looking forward to buying the TikTok business, several alternatives have appeared in the market, including ShareChat, Gaana HotShots, MX TakaTak, etc. YouTube, too, is testing a similar feature for users in India.
Given the large user base, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube are likely to dominate the short video category in the coming time. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the same? Have you got Facebook’s Short Videos feature on your phone? Do let us know in the comments below.
